About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Trauma Critical Care NP/PA at a Level I trauma center. The role primarily functions as a trauma hospitalist rounder, with intermittent ED consults, trauma activations, and procedures. Responsibilities include responding to trauma alerts, facilitating discharges, ED admissions, daily rounding, and managing all conditions. A trauma surgeon is on site 24-hours. The patient population is adult.

Requirements

  • Active Minnesota licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS, ACLS and ATLS certifications
  • Minimum 1-year Trauma Critical Care experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Minnesota OR Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Minnesota
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) OR National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients
  • Proficiency in performing physical examinations and procedures relevant to their specialty
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions
  • Time management skills to efficiently manage a patient workload
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a healthcare team

Responsibilities

  • Primarily function as trauma hospitalist rounder
  • Intermittent ED consults, trauma activations and procedures
  • Perform procedures including ventilator and non-invasive vent management, chest tube insertion, central and arterial line insertions, minor laceration suturing
  • Respond to ED for trauma alerts
  • Facilitate discharges
  • ED admissions
  • Daily rounding and management of all conditions
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
