About The Position

This is a full-time Critical Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant position in a Cardiothoracic Surgery Setting. The role involves 24/7 coverage, requiring variable schedules. Responsibilities include performing initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments. The position also entails recording findings, performing a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures, writing prescriptions, administering medications, ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiology examinations, and determining patient treatment plans. Accurate documentation of all patient encounters, observations, interventions, and actions is crucial. The role demands critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate, acting as a patient advocate. For those with less than 5 years of CVTS experience, responsibilities include managing STS Database data collection, performing clinic duties one day a week with an assigned physician, and participating in weeknight and weekend call rotations (Q3 or Q4).

Requirements

Must have or be eligible for a DEA license.
Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state one works.
Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in SC required.
BLS required per policy guidelines; with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice.
Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required.
License to practice as a Registered Nurse required.
Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required.

Nice To Haves

ACNP, AGACNP, PNP-AC or NNP board certification preferred according to population served.

Responsibilities

Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments.
Records findings of examinations, assessments and plan of care.
Performs a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures.
Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications.
Orders and interprets laboratory and radiology examinations.
Determines treatment plan for patient.
Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record.
Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
Acts as a patient advocate for the population served.
Attends, participates and contributes to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested.
Manages STS Database data collection pre and post-operatively (for those with less than 5 years CVTS experience).
Performs clinic duties one day a week with assigned physician (for those with less than 5 years CVTS experience).
Provides weeknight Call on a Q3 or Q4 rotation; weekend Call responsibilities on a Q3 or Q4 rotation (for those with less than 5 years CVTS experience).
