The Trauma Coordinator is responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to providing care to injured patients and for managing, promoting, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day operations of the Trauma Program. This role provides direction for patient care across the continuum in collaboration with trauma team physicians, sub-specialists, nursing, and ancillary services. As a registered nurse, the Trauma Coordinator promotes optimal trauma care through clinical activities, professional and public education, administrative functions, and quality improvement activities. Key responsibilities include managing the Trauma PI Program, Trauma Registry, and Community Injury Prevention Programs. The position involves working in conjunction with outside agencies such as EMS and other regulatory bodies, maintaining close communication to function as a stabilizing force in the multidisciplinary care of trauma patients. This involvement spans from pre-hospital care through emergency department care, admission, discharge, transfer, rehabilitation, or death. Establishing and maintaining a communication system with all departments and individuals involved in trauma patient care is crucial.
