About The Position

The Transporter - Transport Services position is a full-time role (80 hours/biweekly) focused on providing transportation for patients to and from treatment areas. This role also involves the general transportation and mobility of supplies and equipment within the facility. The position requires adherence to hospital patient safety standards and may involve assisting with patient lifts and transfers, observing patient conditions during transport, and responding to emergency situations. The Transporter is also responsible for maintaining a professional and respectful work environment, following proper procedures for patient transfers and sign-offs, and assisting with the orientation of new personnel.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
  • Current CPR certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in health care preferred.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic appliances, traction equipment, and their various uses helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation of patients to and from treatment areas.
  • Maintain general transportation/mobility of supplies and equipment.
  • Utilize appropriate, mechanical means or equipment to position, lift, transfer, or transport patients.
  • Safely transport patients, ensuring proper attire for dignity and respect.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures for signing patients on and off units.
  • Respond to inquiries and phone calls professionally.
  • Refer patient inquiries regarding care or status to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with patient lifts and transfers when indicated.
  • Observe patient’s condition during transport and report changes to clinical personnel.
  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Perform external cardiac compressions during ERT activities if required.
  • Follow hospital patient safety standards.
  • Possess knowledge of dispatcher function and be able to temporarily fill that role.
  • Transport medications within the hospital as requested and needed according to Hospital policy.
  • Does not tolerate those who create, foster, or condone an intimidating, hostile, offensive or abrasive work environment.
  • Shows respect for patients by knocking on door before entering room, and making proper inquiries before going behind drawn curtains in patient rooms.
