Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Patient Transporter, you will provide essential assistance and transportation for patients and related items across our campus, ensuring a highly customer-sensitive and seamless experience. Every day you will promptly and safely transport inpatients and outpatients to and from various hospital areas. You will be expected to meticulously confirm patient identification, greet and assist in transferring patients, and make conscious observations of patient condition during transport, reporting any issues to appropriate personnel. You will also maintain a clean and organized work area and report any malfunctioning equipment. To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate a strong commitment to patient safety and exceptional customer service for all individuals within our facility. You will be attentive, observant, and capable of performing duties efficiently while upholding the highest standards of care and professionalism.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • American Heart Association BLS Provider certification
  • Frequently lifts 35lbs from floor to waist and from waist to above.

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential assistance and transportation for patients and related items across our campus, ensuring a highly customer-sensitive and seamless experience.
  • Promptly and safely transport inpatients and outpatients to and from various hospital areas.
  • Meticulously confirm patient identification.
  • Greet and assist in transferring patients.
  • Make conscious observations of patient condition during transport, reporting any issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and report any malfunctioning equipment.
  • Transport patients according to the designated method (stretcher, wheelchair, bed, etc.) and also any other support equipment such as oxygen, monitor, infusion pumps, etc.
  • Greet the patient, identify themselves and inform the patient where they are being taken and for what purpose.
  • Wash and/or gel their hands before handling the patient and/or anything in the patient's room.
  • Collect transport slips assigned daily from the Central Transport Dispatcher, with add-ons collected throughout the shift.
  • Confirm patient ID.
  • Maintain patient privacy and comfort at all times.
  • Ensure patients are treated with courtesy, respect, and consideration at all times.
  • Notify Nursing before transport and upon returning the patient to the nursing floor.
  • Sign the patient in and out of the Patient Transport Log Book located at each nurse's station.
  • Collaborate with nursing personnel to determine the level of nursing assistance that will be required; i.e., assure that the patient is ready for transport; nursing personnel will discontinue and reinstate patient therapies such as suction, drainage, etc.
  • Follow the Patient ID Policy and Procedure, two (2) patient identifiers, name, and DOB matching with the transport request, and have the patient state this information to you verbally - if an altered mental status, you need to confirm ID with the nurse.
