About The Position

The Transporter provides assigned residents with routine daily transportation in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as directions from the Administrator. The role helps ensure facility transportation services are safe and comfortable. The Transporter escorts or transports residents within the facility or to other medical facilities, assists residents who are walking or uses a wheelchair for non-ambulatory residents, and operates vehicle lifts. The position also involves inspecting and maintaining fleet vehicles and ensuring nursing care is provided in privacy.

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license and pass the requirements of a driver's license background check.
• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must function independently and demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to express oneself adequately in written and oral communication and communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.

• High school graduate or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escort or transport patients within the facility or to another medical facility.
• Determine the patient's name, destination, mode of travel, time, and other relevant information according to written or oral instructions.
• Assist patients while walking to help prevent falls, or transport non-ambulatory patients using a wheelchair.
• Operate mechanical, hydraulic, and manual lifts on vans and buses.
• Maintain the interior and exterior of fleet vehicles, inspect vehicles, report operational concerns, and oversee maintenance to ensure safe and proper vehicle operation.
• Ensure that nursing care is provided in privacy.
