About The Position

This role involves direct patient contact and frequent interaction with nurses, radiology techs, desk staff, and door attendants. The Transporter is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients, visitors, and patient-related items. A key part of the role is providing detailed verbal communication to care team members during patient handoffs, including confirming patient identification. The position requires independent work and teamwork with minimal supervision, along with proficiency in using a smartphone for transport requests and communication. Safely operating various motorized patient transport equipment, disinfecting equipment after each use, and requesting maintenance are also essential functions. The role includes performing wheelchair roundups, and employees will be expected to stand and/or walk 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift, frequently pushing/pulling patients up to 200 pounds and occasionally up to or exceeding 350 pounds. Transporting patients with special equipment such as oxygen, IV pumps, or wound vacs, and partnering with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety are critical. Adherence to medical isolation precautions, protocols, and PPE requirements is mandatory, confirmed through Epic information and patient care teams. The role may involve lateral slide transfers using a slider board and sheet, and occasionally assisting with ceiling lift slings. Providing assistance to patients and visitors as needed is also part of the job. Transporting critical care patients may require accompaniment by a Nurse and/or Respiratory Therapist, and the Transporter must monitor the patient's condition during transport when not accompanied by patient care staff, recognizing and responding to changes that may require a medical emergency call. Working hours can include days, evenings, overnights, holidays, and weekends with rotating days off.
