Transporter Specialist - Evening Shift
About The Position
The Transporter Specialist supports the university’s transportation services and physical and logistical needs. The role is an individual-contributor position that provides operational support under moderate supervision, with routine work that may sometimes require interpreting or deviating from standard procedures. The position supports safe, efficient, and reliable transportation for students, staff, and visitors, including operation of transit buses and servicing equipment. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus, subject to a one-year service agreement.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 8 months of prior work experience; experience gained during part-time work as a student may be considered.
- Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Type A or B with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements, or a valid State of Virginia Driver's License and the ability to obtain the CDL with endorsements within the first 45 days of hire.
- A positive point balance and a good driving record on the existing license.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of safe bus operation, including sustained sitting and driving; pushing and pulling; repetitive motion; hand, finger, wrist, and ankle/foot dexterity and strength; climbing at least one step; and bending, lifting, and carrying.
Responsibilities
- Operate transit buses safely.
- Support transportation services and day-to-day logistical operations.
- Board and alight from transit buses as needed.
- Operate ADA-accessible equipment aboard transit buses.
- Service equipment, including work during special events.
