About The Position

The Transporter-101 is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of patients within the healthcare facility. This role involves assisting patients with transfers, managing medical equipment during transport, and supporting healthcare professionals during procedures. The transporter must adhere to strict safety and compliance guidelines, including universal precautions, HIPAA, and OSHA. Effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team is essential, as is maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The position requires attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks, and strong customer service skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous patient care or transport experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull patients and equipment safely.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations.
  • Team-oriented with a commitment to patient-centered care.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed between units, diagnostic areas, and procedure rooms.
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers (Name & DOB) before transport.
  • Assist patients with positioning and transfers using proper body mechanics.
  • Monitor and manage oxygen tanks, IV lines, and other medical equipment during transport.
  • Assist technologists and nurses with patient preparation and positioning for imaging or interventional procedures.
  • Maintain patient privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Follow universal precautions, HIPAA, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and safety hazards promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Explain procedures to reduce patient anxiety and obtain cooperation.
  • Clean and disinfect transport equipment after each use.
  • Keep hallways clear and store equipment properly.
  • Restock supplies in assigned areas as needed.
