Transportation Worker 1 Mechanic - Upshur County
About The Position
The Transportation Worker 1 Mechanic in this position reports to the Equipment Division in Upshur County. The selected applicant, under general supervision, performs entry-level repairs and preventative maintenance on transportation vehicles and all types of highway equipment in need of repair. Will perform minor maintenance on fleet equipment and vehicles, which includes, but is not limited to, changing or repairing tires, checking automotive fluids, checking/installing windshield wipers, and inspecting vehicles for compliance with state regulations. Helps to provide a safe work environment by keeping the garage area clean. Assists the higher-level mechanics with vehicle and heavy equipment repairs. This position also operates a Steam Jenny on a daily basis to wash and detail equipment and vehicles brought in for repair. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. Performs other related duties as required. The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. The selected applicant will be required, within 6 months of employment, to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL). Progress through the apprenticeship program, as well as the opportunity for advancement to a higher classification, is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as obtaining and maintaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The WVDOT is responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and regulation of over 35,000 miles of state roads. This duty may necessitate employees working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, occasionally without prior notice. In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator and Mechanic, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment. Pay Grade 10H Tier 1 hourly rate: $15.4913
Requirements
