Requirements

  • Six months of experience in loading, unloading or moving heavy construction materials or equipment, including experience in rigging or the use of a power winch.
  • Some positions may require a valid California Class A Driver License and/or special endorsements to carry out essential functions.
  • Successful applicants for positions that require driving must provide verification of their driver license and a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment.
  • License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Transportation Truck Drivers in loading and unloading heavy construction equipment (e.g., tractors, cranes, excavators) and oversized or extra-heavy freight (e.g., structural steel, lumber, piling, heavy pipe).
  • Operates heavy construction equipment onto and off trailers.
  • Assists in rigging or other special winching jobs.
  • Assists in performing minor maintenance work on trucks and equipment.
  • Performs physically arduous work (e.g., climbing equipment and trailers up to 10 feet, lifting and carrying heavy materials over 25 pounds, securing loads, and maneuvering rigging equipment).
  • Maintains work logs and records (e.g., working hours, vehicle usage, deliveries, materials transported, load securement activities).
  • Interacts with various individuals (e.g., co-workers, supervisors, drivers, other government agencies, private sector vendors).
  • Acts as a relief driver, as needed.
