About The Position

The Transportation Technician coordinates activities to ensure that District vehicles and buses are properly cleaned and ready for service. This is a 12-month contract position, working 8 hours per day from 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., exclusive of a lunch. Special arrangements may be made with the supervisor if the situation warrants, and supervisor approval is required if the contract varies. The role is FLSA Nonexempt and evaluated annually by the Director of Transportation.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Sit for extended periods
• Twist at the neck and trunk
• Bend and reach at, below and above shoulder level
• Repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment
• Lift/move up to 15 pounds
• Walk
• Reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally
• Lift/move up to 50 pounds
• Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
• Adequate hearing/speaking to exchange information

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks such as power washing, vacuuming, sweeping, fueling, and general cleanup of District buses and vehicles.
• Maintain the ability to read a daily schedule and prioritize workload accordingly.
• Maintain shop equipment and keep the work area clean.
• Assist the mechanic and drivers as needed with maintenance and upkeep of District vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to help out as a bus aide, if personnel is limited during the school year.
• To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
