About The Position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is a 100% employee-owned consulting firm with over 2,800 professionals, offering a wide range of engineering, architecture, IT, and related services. JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician IV to serve as a lead inspector for transportation construction projects in North Carolina. Statewide opportunities are available. Immigration sponsorship is not available, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and seven (7) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Active driver’s license
• Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
• Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
• Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings

Nice To Haves

• NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
• Experience with local clients preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
• Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project
• Measure and track quantities of pay items
• Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
• Perform other related duties as assigned
