JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician III to perform work as a lead inspector responsible for supervision of transportation construction projects. Statewide opportunities are available. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's drug screening process, thereafter subject to random and for cause drug and alcohol testing.
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Active driver’s license
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
  • Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings

Nice To Haves

  • NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
  • Experience with local clients preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
  • Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project
  • Measure and track quantities of pay items
  • Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
  • Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
