The Construction Management Team at JMT is seeking a Transportation Technician III to serve as a lead inspector, overseeing transportation construction projects in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Please note that immigration sponsorship is not available for this position, with the exception of qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification. This role is open to multiple locations within North Carolina, and details can be discussed with the hiring manager during an interview.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Active driver’s license
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
  • Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Nice To Haves

  • NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
  • Experience with local clients preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
  • Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project
  • Measure and track quantities of pay items
  • Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
  • Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
