About The Position

Join the City of Edmonton as a Transportation Technician II! Help shape the way people move through our city! You will play a vital role in ensuring Edmonton’s growth is safe, accessible, and aligned with modern urban standards. As a key member of our Transportation team, you'll be at the heart of the development process, ensuring that transportation upgrades support land development projects. You'll be instrumental in reviewing and setting conditions for a variety of applications, including development permit applications.

Requirements

  • Two-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field from a recognized institute of technology
  • Five years of experience in transportation planning, civil engineering, and/or traffic operations
  • Direct experience in land use planning and the review of development applications and/or land development applications
  • In-depth grasp of the land development process within the Edmonton context
  • Proficiency in transportation engineering and planning principles and practices
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Zoning Bylaw, Access Management Guidelines, and Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards
  • Skilled interpretation of site plans, landscape plans, architectural drawings, design plans, and technical specifications
  • Proven ability to manage a high-volume workload and competing priorities with strong attention to detail
  • Advanced customer service and negotiation skills to manage files and to find workable solutions to key issues
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills both one-on-one and in large groups
  • Professional written communication for drafting clear responses that include conditions and advisements, drafting clear emails and letters for a variety of audiences
  • Computer proficiency with Google Suite, Pictometry, POSSE, and SLIM
  • Collaborative mindset for working effectively within a team environment
  • Critical thinking to weigh risks and navigate the technical requirements of an evolving industry

Responsibilities

  • Review, technical evaluation and identification of transportation requirements associated with Development Permit Applications and/or Land Development Applications
  • Apply knowledge of transportation engineering, including transit, active transportation, traffic operations, engineering design and construction standards, in reviewing Development Permit Applications and/or Land Development Applications
  • Ensure compliance with City of Edmonton policies, bylaws, and the City of Edmonton guiding documents (such as City Plan, Zoning Bylaw, Access Management Guidelines, City of Edmonton Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards, Plans in Effect, etc.)
  • Complete written responses that clearly and concisely include all transportation requirements precisely established as conditions and advisements of an application
  • Liaise and collaborate with applicants, property owners, consultants, other City staff, and utility agencies to resolve issues
  • Review internal circulations and utility line assignments to prevent conflicts with existing or future infrastructure
  • Organize, lead and/or actively participate in meetings with various collaborators to discuss transportation requirements or issues associated with proposed or future applications
