About The Position

This position is located at the Ohio Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Center at 1323 West Blee Road, Springfield, OH 45502. The role involves integrating various data feeds for airspace management, supporting uncrewed aircraft operations, managing drone operations for mapping and monitoring, serving as a Remote Pilot-in-Command or Visual Observer, preparing for missions, and processing acquired data. Requirements

  • Must hold and maintain an active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Possess a valid driver's license (or provide own transportation).
  • Willing to perform statewide travel with overnight stays as needed.
  • Experience operating rotorcraft/fixed-wing UAS platforms.
  • Experience operating personal computers/tablets, and specialized software (e.g., Microsoft Suite, UGCS, and various UAS flight command software).
  • Experience operating Skydio x10 aircraft and other platforms greater than 55 lbs.
  • Experience operating aircraft in a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) environment.
  • Experience conducting two-way radio communications with aircraft and/or aircrew.
  • Strong understanding of Part 107 safety practices.
  • Strong understanding of state/federal government structures.
  • Strong understanding of agency-specific UAS policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of GIS and drone data collection and processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and process data.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic calculations (fractions, decimals, percentages).
  • Demonstrated ability to compile clear, concise reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to cooperate with team members on group projects.
  • Ability to handle sensitive inquiries from public officials and the general public professionally.
  • 2 yrs. exp. as Transportation Technician 1, 85873, with experience to be commensurate with position to be filled.
  • OR completion of associate degree program in engineering technology; 5 yrs. engineering related technical experience in simple & standard construction/ rehabilitation/maintenance projects or planning & design of simple & standard civil engineering projects or materials testing, with experience to be commensurate with position to be filled.
  • OR 7 yrs. trg. or 7 yrs. exp. in engineering related technical experience in simple & standard construction/ rehabilitation/maintenance projects or planning & design of simple & standard civil engineering projects or materials testing, with experience to be commensurate with positions to be filled.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate Ground-Based Detect & Avoid (GBDAA) radar feeds, ADS-B inputs, and LAANC flight approvals to ensure aircraft separation during operations.
  • Support uncrewed aircraft operations and testing.
  • Manage remote Drone-in-a-Box (DIB) and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations using Skydio Dock systems and cloud command platforms for automated corridor mapping, bridge, roadway, and construction monitoring.
  • Serve as Remote Pilot-in-Command (RPIC) or Visual Observer (VO).
  • Construct 3D photogrammetry routes and automated inspection grids.
  • Perform preflight, in-flight, and post-flight checks for rotorcraft and fixed-wing platforms.
  • Conduct pre-mission planning and safety risk assessments.
  • Review weather, file NOTAMs, coordinate airspace with controlling agencies, and brief operation teams and requestors.
  • Organize, process, and deliver acquired data to the UAS Data Manager.
  • Prepare and maintain flight logs, risk assessments, equipment condition reports, accident/incident reports, and inventory records.
