About The Position

This is a Full-time, salaried position located in Norfolk/Chesapeake, VA. The pay range is $59,000-$67,000. The primary objective of this role is to act as the local main point of contact for all logistics-related matters. This includes managing customs documentation, trade compliance, and coordinating logistics for international shipments to ensure they meet all regulatory requirements. The position also involves booking customer outbound LTL shipments through the Transport Management System (TMS) and coordinating deliveries with customers. The Transportation Specialist will also assist other Transportation Specialists in daily operations. The role is crucial for positively differentiating the company from competitors and adding value to its products, requiring flexibility to handle special customer needs within local market constraints.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management
2-5 years of experience in international trade, customs, or logistics
Strong knowledge of customs regulations and trade compliance requirements
Familiarity with trade management and customs documentation systems
Prior experience in transportation and/or logistics
Experience in SAP
Experience utilizing Princeton TMX Management System
Excellent knowledge in all GSuite Products (a plus)
Good written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Flexibility to perform other departmental positions or special projects assigned
Critical thinking and problem solving skills

Responsibilities

Coordinates with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers
Resolves customs holds or documentation issues
Maintains records of trade transactions for audit and compliance purposes
Prepares and verifies customs documentation for imports and exports
Supports department to achieve transportation cost and service objectives
Maintains logistics partner rate databases & freight invoice audit
Reviews / Audits invoices from carriers, railroads, and transload warehouses
Acts as a liaison between Operations and Sales for site management issues (allocation, emergencies, tracking, etc.)
Serves as the single point of contact for logistics questions
Prepares Warehouse Fuel Surcharges for input into TMX
Prepares and distributes weekly fuel surcharge analysis to the B&I sales team
Updates Fuel Surcharge costs in the TMX database/spreadsheet on a weekly basis
Assists in tracking premium freight spend
Books LTL shipments
Coordinates inbound and outbound movements for the production/operations department
Coordinates drayage movements for imported products
Assists Customer Service & Logistics Manager on other activities as assigned
