About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) is seeking a Transportation Services Representative 1 for the Central Region in Redmond. This role involves assisting the public with driver license applications, vehicle registration, permit and license plate issuance, administering knowledge, skill, and vision tests, collecting fees, and providing information on regulations and policies. The position also includes administering behind-the-wheel drive tests. ODOT provides training on vehicle laws, agency policies, and regulations. The agency is committed to providing a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system and encourages applications from all backgrounds and abilities.

Requirements

  • Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months experience collecting money and making change.
  • Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles, and issuing permits and license plates.
  • Administer knowledge, skill, and vision tests to potential drivers.
  • Ensure correct fees are collected.
  • Provide information about regulations and policies.
  • Administer behind-the-wheel drive tests.
  • Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions.
  • Produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
  • Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.
  • Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
  • Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
  • Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
