About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) Field Services Group / Central Region is seeking a Transportation Services Representative 1 for their Redmond office. This role involves assisting the public with driver license applications, vehicle registration, permit and license plate issuance. Responsibilities include administering knowledge, skill, and vision tests, collecting fees, providing information on regulations and policies, and conducting behind-the-wheel driving tests. The position offers training to enable decision-making based on vehicle laws, agency policies, and regulations. ODOT aims to provide a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system and encourages applications from diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Requirements

  • Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months experience collecting money and making change.
  • Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.
  • Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to drive is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles and issuing permits and license plates.
  • Administer knowledge, skill and vision tests to potential drivers.
  • Ensure correct fees are collected.
  • Provide information about regulations and policies.
  • Administer behind-the-wheel drive tests.
  • Help the public register vehicles and apply for permits.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.
  • Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions in a way that is easily understood.
  • Produce photo licenses, instruction permits and identification cards.
  • Administer, correct and explain driver license tests.
  • Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.
  • Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
  • Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
  • Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
