About The Position

The Transportation Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the safety programs related to transportation operations. This role ensures that all company transportation activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA), promotes a strong safety culture, and works proactively to reduce risk and improve the overall safety performance of the fleet and drivers. This is a full-time position. This position is remote & reports to the Director of Safety & Compliance.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in transportation safety or fleet compliance roles or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
  • Experience with accident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with transportation management and safety software (e.g., ELD systems, driver logs).
  • Ability to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with hazmat and maintaining compliance.
  • High school education or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of related experience in transportation safety, fleet compliance/management roles
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, as needed.
  • Must be able to lift 50lb or more at times.
  • Willingness to work year-round outside in all weather conditions.
  • Walks/traverses, stands on rough terrain, bends frequently, climbs ladders, steps, and other elevated platforms.

  • Applicants must also be able to pass a background check and have a clean Motor Vehicle Report.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain transportation safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of fleet operations.
  • Lead incident and accident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with maintaining and monitoring driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing programs, hours of service, and vehicle inspection records.
  • Provide safety training and education for drivers.
  • Track and analyze safety metrics, trends, and performance indicators.
  • Coordinate driver onboarding, discipline, and recognition programs.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and safety technologies.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure vehicles meet safety standards.
