Requirements

  • Demonstrate recent experience developing highway and/or roadway projects for CDOT and/or local governmental agencies.
  • Ability to lead design teams, manage projects, and check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Understands client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, invoicing, and collecting accounts receivable.
  • Technical leader in all relevant areas of design and understanding of various design methods.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft suite of Office 365 products.
  • Ability to lead meetings with the client, design teams, and other agencies.
  • Effective communicator and able to work with and lead teams.
  • Proficient in relevant design software, which may include AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation OpenRoads, and 3-D Modeling experience preferred.
  • Ability to see the big picture of roadway projects.
  • Understand or have experience in storm drain design, utility relocations, and traffic designs a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (emphasis in Transportation preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Colorado.
  • Additional licensure, or ability to acquire, within western US preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in roadway design or similar.
  • Project Management experience a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-D Modeling experience preferred.
  • Understand or have experience in storm drain design, utility relocations, and traffic designs a plus.
  • Additional licensure, or ability to acquire, within western US preferred.
  • Project Management experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the review and sealing of roadway projects.
  • Performs on technically complex projects and acts as a technical resource by providing guidance to other team members on transportation-related projects.
  • Liaise with clients, agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
  • Assist Project Manager in the preparation of client proposals, reports and the development of project design elements including specifications, and estimates.
  • Create detailed 3D roadway corridor models using computer-aided design software including AutoCAD Civil3D and MicroStation OpenRoads Designer.
  • Utilize model-based design visualization software, such as InfraWorks, LumenRT, Concept Station, or Beyond Typicals, to support design development and client communications.
  • Identify and analyze the principal design features and major design alternatives that satisfy the project’s purpose and the client’s needs.
  • Develop feasible design alternatives to be compared against significant project parameters such as site conditions, right-of-way requirements, utility conflicts, design standards, safety, environmental impacts, community input, and cost.
  • Produce detailed, high-quality final design plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Peer review plans and provide quality control reviews of technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Develop and/or manage highway and roadway projects for CDOT or local governmental agencies.
