About The Position

Metric is looking for an experienced Transportation Engineer to serve as our next Transportation Planning Lead based out of our San Antonio, TX office. This leadership role is ideal for a professional with 10+ years of experience in transportation planning who is ready to take ownership of projects, build a high-performing team, and help expand Metric’s presence across the San Antonio region and throughout Texas. This position offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to shape and grow a transportation team while delivering impactful infrastructure projects that serve our communities. The lead will work closely with Texas leadership to drive business development efforts. Additionally, this role will be supported by our long-established transportation planning division that can provide resources and experience for project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Texas and relevant state(s)
  • Extensive transportation experience (typically 10+ to 15+ years) with progressive leadership responsibility
  • Proven track record managing large scale transportation or municipal infrastructure projects
  • Strong communication, business development, and team leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the development of transportation planning projects, including feasibility studies, multimodal studies, corridor studies, long-range transportation plans, master transportation plans, and small area plans.
  • Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, risk mitigation strategies, and QA/QC processes to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and guidelines, including AASHTO, DOT criteria, MUTCD, and industry best practices.
  • Serve as the primary client contact for TxDOT, local municipalities, counties, and other public agencies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with agency partners, community stakeholders, and decision-makers.
  • Represent the firm in meetings, public forums, and stakeholder engagements as needed.
  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
  • Participate in industry organizations and professional associations to enhance visibility and market presence.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as needed to support team and organizational success.
  • Integrate planning and engineering disciplines within project teams to create a cohesive, data-driven decision-making framework.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret transportation data to inform recommendations and support sound planning decisions.
  • Support the implementation of innovative planning methodologies and oversee the development of high-quality deliverables, including graphics, technical reports, and web-based engagement tools.
