NV5 has an immediate opening for a Department Manager to lead our NY based Traffic Planning/Engineering Group in New York City and Long Island.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in CE or related field required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Traffic Planning or Traffic/Transportation Engineering (or equivalent combination of working knowledge and experience)
  • Must be a licensed Professional Planner (PP) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York, or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Supervising experience, directing tasks and performing QA/QC is required

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree is highly desirable
  • Must be certified by American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
  • Safety Professional (RSP) certification or Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is preferred.
  • Familiarity with NYCDOT standards
  • Local project experience highly desirable
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills highly desired for public and client presentations as well as document preparation

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Traffic Planning/Engineering group, with a view to growing our regional practice and will be experienced with business development, proposal preparation, mentoring and directing staff, client management and project administration.
  • Lead projects as well as grow and enhance our regional consulting practice.
  • Take projects from conception through construction, with a solid background in traffic planning, or engineering operations, infrastructure planning and design involving roadway corridors, streets and bridge reconstruction projects.
  • Lead technical research and writing, document preparation and publication efforts
  • Lead the preparation of proposals, development of scopes of work and create work hour estimates
  • Assist with traffic impact studies, preliminary traffic analyses, and transportation planning reports.
  • Assist in the development of Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) plans and traffic signal design, including signing and pavement marking plans.
  • Assist with traffic operations and safety studies to support roadway improvement projects.
  • Attend and assist with public meetings, public hearings, presentations, and client coordination activities.
  • Prepare comprehensive plans, zoning regulations/form-based codes, design guidelines, and other community plans.
  • Complete all aspects of public engagement: presentation materials, community surveys, stakeholder interviews, website setup, and community meetings.
  • Develop transportation planning strategies for communities throughout New Jersey.
  • Conduct environmental review (SEQRA/NEPA), including preparation of Environmental Impact Statements.
  • Manage multiple assignments while maintaining strong attention to detail and meeting project deadlines.
