About The Position

VHB’s Virginia offices have an immediate opening for a Transportation Planner! This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.

Requirements

8+ years of planning, consulting, and compliance experience in the transportation sector
Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field
Comfort working with data and analysis tools (e.g., GIS, Excel, transportation datasets, safety data) and interpreting results for planning applications.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently
A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
The ability to work on multiple projects and work independently
Excellent attention to detail
Proficiency with communication tools such, Word, PowerPoint, and graphics software

Nice To Haves

Professional certification preferred (i.e., American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or PTOE certification)

Responsibilities

Supports multimodal transportation planning projects.
Conduct and synthesize data-driven analyses (travel demand, safety, access, equity, and performance measures) into clear, compelling planning recommendations.
Conduct technical traffic engineering work using Synchro, SIDRA, HCS, MicroStation and VISSIM
Support public and stakeholder engagement, including workshops, open houses, small group meetings, and online engagement.
Coordinate with internal teams (planning, engineering, urban design, environmental, and GIS) to develop integrated solutions.
Mentor junior staff by reviewing work, providing feedback, and modeling collaborative team behavior.
