About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Transportation Planner to join their growing transportation team. The role focuses on making communities more sustainable through strategic multimodal transportation planning. Key responsibilities include policy review and analysis, data analysis, technical and policy writing, understanding of key planning frameworks and policies (e.g., Provincial Policy Statement, Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, Ontario Traffic Manuals), experience with public and/or stakeholder consultation, and knowledge of sustainable transportation planning principles. The position also involves a business development component, including responding to requests for proposals, general business development activities, and maintaining/developing industry relationships. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, possesses excellent communication and collaboration skills, is eager to learn, and thrives in a fast-paced consulting environment. Project management skills (task coordination, budget management, client communications, deliverable review) and strong writing, presentation, and public speaking skills are beneficial. The role involves supporting project task work, conducting analysis, preparing documentation, reporting, and presenting findings, with opportunities to collaborate with professionals in active transportation, transit, goods movement, placemaking, safety, traffic engineering, and modeling.

Requirements

  • A minimum of six years of experience in a related field
  • University degree in urban/regional planning, civil engineering, or related field
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

  • Eligibility to become a Registered Professional Planner or a Professional Engineer is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead a variety of transportation planning tasks within the Mobility Advisory team.
  • Conduct policy and planning review and analysis.
  • Perform transportation data and network analysis.
  • Contribute to the development of broader strategic plans such as transportation master plans and policies relating to safety and complete streets.
  • Contribute to and lead the writing of key reports, including background context reports, needs assessments, network development documentation, and consultation summaries.
  • Play a key role in consultation planning and execution, preparing presentations and materials for meetings, and analyzing feedback from stakeholders.
  • Balance the priorities of multiple agencies in multijurisdictional planning environments.
  • Evaluate planning solutions through the development of multi-criteria evaluation frameworks and key performance indicators.
  • Manage client relationships, ensuring high-quality service and successful project outcomes.
  • Stay informed about ongoing and evolving industry and municipal best practices in transportation planning (e.g., equity, goods movement, complete streets, new technologies, road user safety, traffic calming, active transportation, travel demand management, public health, community-building initiatives).
  • Lead project tasks on multidisciplinary teams, including budget management and quality control.
  • Contribute to and lead proposal development efforts.
  • Support business development activities, including responding to requests for proposals and developing industry relationships.
