About The Position

The Agency of Transportation is seeking temporary Transportation Operations Technicians in St. Albans. This position will be responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. It is anticipated that these positions will work 40 hours per week for approximately six months. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor INCLUDING EITHER one season of operating a snowplow with wings OR six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
  • A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
  • An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.
  • An incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled.
  • Must provide detailed employment information for the past 10 years for CDL application requirements, including names and addresses of previous employers for which you were an operator of a commercial motor vehicle, the dates you were employed by these employers, and the reason for leaving employment.

  • Upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I AND possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
