About The Position

Responsible for the supervision of all transportation personnel and vehicles; leading activities of daily operations in St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties. Position manages daily delivery of transportation services with emphasis on safety and compliance. Works in partnership with County entities and the Dept. of Transportation to direct Public Transit operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree with 2 years’ experience or Associate Degree with 5 years’ experience in Business, Transport Management, Public Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field with 5 years of supervisory experience or High School Diploma and 10 years of supervisory experience overseeing personnel in transportation.
  • CDL license with appropriate endorsement and 19-A Bus Driver Examiner Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Ability to pass Dept. of Transportation physical and drug/alcohol testing.
  • Must obtain and maintain any endorsements required by DMV and DOT throughout employment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States and pass all background clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the budget and operations for the Transportation Dept. and demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
  • Provide supervision for all operations by leading, hiring, and motivating the team, creating a positive work environment.
  • Develops and standardizes procedures to improve and monitor service delivery, documentation, scheduling, and compliance with regulations.
  • Complete and manage supervisors to ensure all trainings, certifications, time-keeping, and evaluations are completed for personnel.
  • Communicates regularly with staff and coaches employees to address challenges and handle corrective action, as needed.
  • Provides coverage and manages On Call systems for department, which includes route coverage and handling customer service.
  • Organizes and prepares reports for audits, board reports, committees, and all other requested transportation documents for internal and external partners.
  • Monitors and implements changes in regulation and policy, after approval.
  • Responsible for management of documentation and recommending vehicle purchases working in coordination with Purchasing and Accounting Departments, which includes assistance with grant-writing to secure funding.
  • Perform or ensure that a daily safety inspection is conducted to minimize and address any possible safety hazards, and to ensure all equipment is being utilized safely and properly.
  • Oversees vehicle fleet and schedules preventative maintenance checks and services.
  • Oversees and analyses all transit management software and ensures compliance with team to implement effective solutions.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings and trainings.
