About The Position

The Department of Transportation (DOT), Bureau of Finance and Administration, Inventory Management Unit, is currently recruiting for a Transportation Material Storage Supervisor position within the Office of Inventory Management. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position located at the Central Warehouse, 660 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT, with a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. The role requires an experienced inventory and operations professional capable of balancing office-based responsibilities with regular field travel to multiple DOT stockrooms for oversight of operations. The selected candidate will play a key role in maintaining safety, inventory accuracy, ensuring compliance with DOT policies and procedures, supporting standardized operational practices, and overseeing effective Core-CT inventory management processes. Requirements

  • Six (6) years of experience in materials storage handling in charge of a large complex stores operation.
  • Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience overseeing diverse workgroups
  • Experience in applying inventory control procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and internal controls
  • Experience with storeroom operations, procurement, and inventory management, with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency
  • Experience working with CORE-CT modules, including Financials, Inventory, Queries, and HRMS (Time and Labor)
  • Experience with inventory controls and physical inventory processes
  • Experience with working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while providing effective customer service and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Clean driving record

Responsibilities

  • Directing operations for four (4) or more Store locations, including regular reporting to the Central Warehouse
  • Scheduling, assigning, overseeing, and reviewing the work of staff
  • Providing staff training, guidance, and operational assistance
  • Conducting employee performance evaluations and monitoring work performance
  • Establishing priorities and coordinating daily office and field operations
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining office procedures and operational workflows
  • Recommending updates to policies, procedures, and operational standards
  • Serving as a liaison with internal operating units, external agencies, and other officials regarding operational and procedural matters
  • Preparing reports, correspondence, and administrative documentation
  • Reviewing and adjusting inventory values related to deterioration, damage, or obsolescence
  • Preparing detailed inventory and operational reports
  • Directing and overseeing preparation of annual inventory reporting and related documentation
  • Developing forms, instructions, and revised procedures related to Stores accounting and inventory operations
  • Traveling independently to multiple DOT Stockrooms to conduct operational oversight
  • Conducting field inspections of Storeroom operations, inventory practices, and facility conditions
  • Assisting in the establishment and revision of standards and specifications for stock items
  • Reviewing and approving requisitions and purchases submitted by Material Storage Supervisors
  • Overseeing stock distribution, material transfers, inventory storage methods, and material location practices across multiple facilities
  • Maintaining responsibility for the security, accountability, and control of inventory, commodities, assets, and materials
  • Investigating inventory discrepancies, irregularities, and operational concerns affecting inventory accuracy or compliance
  • Performing related duties as required
