BJ’s Wholesale Club is seeking a Transportation Manager to oversee and direct the daily operations of all transportation functions. This role is crucial for managing shipping, safety, and profitable backhaul operations to ensure cost-effective sourcing and revenue generation. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and general transportation regulations.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) Hours of Service.
  • Ability to understand and manage budgets.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused while prioritizing requests from multiple sources.
  • Ability to maintain and ensure confidentiality of team member and company information.
  • Ability to provide clear and constructive feedback, coaching, and counseling.
  • Proficient in computer usage to include email, word processing, presentation software, spreadsheets, data compilation, data analyses, TMW Systems.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skill, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to accommodate flexible schedules to meet the needs of the customer to include nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Independently lift up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs rarely.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk bend, squat on a frequent to continual basis in a normal office environment.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk bend, squat on a frequent to continual basis in a refrigerated warehouse environment.
  • Able to step up onto and down from truck multiple times per day.
  • Able to adjust to fluctuating temperatures and withstand freezing temperatures as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to read small print on packaging and paperwork, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to occasionally work in a noisy warehouse environment.
  • Able to work while wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the job (such gloves, insulated clothing, etc).
  • Ability to handle and physically be near products which may contain food allergens (such as fish, shellfish, peanuts, etc.).
  • Ability to utilize equipment for the job safely and accurately after training (such as computer, handheld tracker, copiers, scanners, printers, radio headsets, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • College coursework, continuing technical education or comparable business experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferably in a transportation environment.
  • Management experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and monitor the fair and equitable application of policies, procedures, and practices in all areas.
  • Analyze all transportation functions and programs to ensure accuracy, efficiency, Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance, and profitability.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implementing solutions for all transportation functions and programs.
  • Strategically analyze routing and scheduling to ensure optimum efficiency for on-time performance.
  • Proactively be involved with identifying, planning, and maintaining staffing levels.
  • Proactively analyze and monitor TMW Systems to ensure all reports are accurate and timely.
  • Ensure tasks and documentation are completed neatly, thoroughly, accurately and timely.
  • Promote exceptional (WOW) Customer Service by creating an environment that promotes building and maintaining effective communication with carriers, vendors internal and external customers in order to develop innovative solutions to meet customer needs and ensure product quality and services are never compromised.
  • Support achievement of company business plans, strategies and objectives by coordinating the use of shared resources with other departments and locations.
  • Encourage “win/win” outcomes, leading by example to show cooperativeness, flexibility, and willingness to change.
  • Administer Department of Transportation (DOT) safety policies and practices, analyzing cause/effect, and implementing solutions.
  • Monitor vendor audits, invoicing, equipment leases, and maintenance to ensure accuracy, proper scheduling, and compliance.
  • Be cooperative, flexible, and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization including customers and vendors.
  • Create an environment of accountability for individual and team performance through analyzing and communicating metrics.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships and communication with internal and external customers.
  • Understanding internal and external customer’s expectations and needs.
  • Helping team members understand customer’s needs.
  • Developing and delivering innovative solutions that are responsive to internal and external customers.
  • Ensuring quality of products and services are never compromised.
  • Provide timely recognition and communication of team member achievements.
