Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Transportation Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in transportation, fleet management, logistics, or a related operational field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience with direct reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transportation operations, fleet management principles, and applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), OSHA, and other applicable safety and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and fleet management or transportation software.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Transportation Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing transportation operations across multiple locations or divisions.
  • Experience overseeing large commercial or municipal fleets.
  • Certified Director of Safety (CDS), Certified Transportation Professional (CTP), or other relevant professional certification.
  • Experience with fleet telematics, GPS systems, fuel management programs, and transportation analytics.
  • Experience with budget development, capital planning, and vendor contract management.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience.
  • Valid Driver License, with acceptable driving record
  • Previous industry experience

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee transportation and fleet operations across multiple divisions to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient delivery service.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and evaluate transportation supervisors, dispatch personnel, and other assigned staff.
  • Develop staffing plans and participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and employee development activities.
  • Establish performance expectations and conduct employee performance evaluations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized transportation policies, procedures, and operating practices.
  • Monitor fleet utilization, vehicle availability, maintenance schedules, fuel usage, driver productivity, and operational performance metrics.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and vehicle replacement planning to maximize fleet reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee driver qualification files, licensing requirements, training programs, and safety initiatives.
  • Investigate vehicle accidents, incidents, and safety concerns, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Develop and administer departmental operating and capital budgets while identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with transportation vendors, equipment suppliers, and service providers.
  • Collaborate with divisional leadership to identify transportation needs and allocate fleet resources appropriately.
  • Prepare reports, analyze operational data, and present recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance transportation services, customer satisfaction, safety, and operational effectiveness.
  • Respond to transportation emergencies and operational issues outside of normal business hours when necessary.
  • Abide by all safety regulations to ensure safety of oneself, coworkers and customers.
  • Develop new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, and referrals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
