About The Position

The Transportation Manager is responsible for building and maintaining driver relationships by understanding and meeting their needs, which include home time, payroll, utility, equipment breakdowns, logging violations, and equipment issues. This is achieved through various communication methods and operating systems. The role involves partnering with Dedicated and Associate Logistics Managers to optimize driver loads, ensuring alignment with driver needs and availability. The manager must understand and adhere to customer service expectations, goals, and initiatives to improve value for the customer and Werner. This position requires interfacing with various internal departments such as billing, vans, customer service, risk, safety, payroll, fuel, and maintenance, as well as external vendors. A key responsibility is working closely with the Dedicated Logistics Manager and/or Operations Manager to fill and maintain a full board of drivers. Other related duties may be assigned by the Dedicated Logistics Manager. Timely and regular attendance according to the scheduled shift is also required.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree (Business Admin, Marketing or Transportation/Logistics) and/or two to three years of fleet management or transportation experience in the truckload industry preferred.
  • Six months to one year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proven management ability.
  • Skill in operating a computer terminal and satellite communications system required.
  • Seeing and hearing: Read documents, computer screen answer phones, communicate in person.
  • 75-100% Standing and walking.
  • 0-24 % Climbing, stooping, squatting and kneeling.
  • 0-24 % Dexterity: utilizing phone, typing, and writing.
  • 50-74 % Lift in excess of 10 pounds.
  • 0-24 %

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain driver relationships through understanding and meeting driver needs (home time, payroll, utility, equipment breakdowns, logging violations, equipment issues).
  • Utilize operating systems, customer operating systems, driver telematics communications, face to face communication, and phone/text communication to manage driver needs.
  • Partner with Dedicated and Associate Logistics Managers to optimize driver loads based on origin, destination, type of freight, number of miles, stops, directions, etc., considering driver needs and availability.
  • Understand and adhere to customer dynamics service expectations, goals, and initiatives.
  • Interface with various departments including billing, vans, customer service, risk, safety, payroll, fuel, maintenance, and external vendors.
  • Work closely with the Dedicated Logistics Manager and/or Operations Manager to fill and maintain a full board of drivers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dedicated Logistics Manager.
  • Maintain timely and regular attendance according to the scheduled shift.
