About The Position

The Transportation Manager executes daily transportation operations, ensuring fleet readiness, real-time route coordination, and compliance with DOT and organizational standards. This role supports safe and reliable services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by managing drivers, addressing mechanical issues, and maintaining audit-ready operations using systems such as Samsara, REI, and STTARS.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Samsara, REI, STTARS, or similar fleet/compliance tracking systems
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass the DOTD physical required.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in logistics, business administration, or a related field preferred
  • Previous experience in transportation, fleet operations, and related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Managing the daily operations of the transportation department including route coordination and real-time adjustments
  • Supervising a team of drivers and a transportation coordinator to ensure departmental goals are met
  • Dispatching drivers and modifying routes to maintain on-time performance and operational efficiency
  • Monitoring transportation activity and responding to delays, breakdowns, or service disruptions
  • Performing basic mechanical troubleshooting on fleet vehicles, including identifying issues related to battery, fluids, tires, and warning indicators
  • Assessing vehicle issues and determining appropriate action (on-site resolution, removal from service, or escalation for repair)
  • Coordinating vehicle repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure fleet reliability and safety
  • Conducting routine pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections in alignment with DOT and organizational safety standards
  • Ensuring all vehicles meet Department of Transportation (DOT), state, and local regulatory requirements, including proper equipment and operational readiness
  • Utilizing transportation systems (including Samsara, REI, and STTARS) to monitor fleet activity, track performance, and support compliance requirements
  • Tracking vehicle availability and coordinating fleet usage to minimize downtime
  • Supporting drivers in the field by providing direction during mechanical or operational issues
  • Ensuring safe and reliable transportation services for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with individuals served, caregivers, and staff, ensuring a respectful and supportive environment
  • Monitoring fuel usage, mileage, and overall vehicle performance
  • Identifying, reporting, and supporting resolution of compliance or operational deficiencies
  • Assisting with movement and transport of fleet vehicles as needed
