About The Position

The Pima County Department of Transportation is seeking a motivated individual who is passionate about learning new ideas and sharing their work experience with our maintenance operations division with our maintenance support sector with a wide range of tacks from welding, concrete, fence repair, bridge repair, and also snow removal.

Requirements

  • One year of experience performing helper or apprentice-level duties in transportation-related maintenance or construction. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.) (Completion of a relevant industry-recognized apprenticeship program or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.) OR: One year with Pima County in a Trades Maintenance Helper position performing transportation maintenance duties.
  • Valid driver license is required at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
  • The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.
  • The County requires pre-employment background checks.
  • This position will require a post-job offer physical and/or drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one (1) year grading, setup pouring, and finishing concrete surfaces including but not limited to concrete floors sidewalks, curbs, and stairs.
  • Minimum two (2) years effectively scheduling work, cutting, joining, and shaping metal and other materials, using a range of tools in roadway maintenance.
  • Minimum two (2) years of lead experience in public works coordinating teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine trades or craftsman duties above the helper or apprentice levels to maintain transportation infrastructure
  • Communicates effectively and follows written and verbal instructions
  • Operates powered maintenance and construction equipment
  • Maintains manual or computerized service and usage logs and other records on vehicles, equipment, supported systems, supplies and related materials
  • Inspects and inventories storage containers, bulk and parts stocks and records, either manually or in computerized systems, the contents, quantities, levels or disposition
  • Monitors and adjusts equipment or supported systems for proper functioning and reports deficiencies to supervisors
  • Performs operator-level inspections, servicing, and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment
  • Stores, handles, applies and disposes of hazardous materials required to complete work or generated by work assignments
  • Maintains and uses safety and personal protective equipment
