About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Transportation Maintenance Crew Leader (Electric Maintenance) for the Hartford Electrical Maintenance Unit. This role oversees and assigns daily duties to a crew of Transportation Maintainers and Qualified Crafter Workers (Electrical) involved in the repair and maintenance of traffic lighting and highway illumination on statewide roadways and highways. Requirements

Must indicate holding a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tank endorsement in the "Licenses and Professional Certifications" section of the application.
Must show how they meet the required knowledge and experience on their application.
One (1) year of skilled experience in field maintenance and repair of traffic signals, illumination and related electrical and electronic equipment.
Knowledge of the materials, equipment and approved methods in the maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment.
Interpersonal skills.
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to perform electrical and electronic tests in locating defects.
Ability to install, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic equipment.
Ability to utilize computer software.
Supervisory ability.
Must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.

Nice To Haves

Experience with shorts, pole setting, and working circuit.
Experience with traffic signal video and radar detection, levels of signals, and priority.
Experience with Call Before You Dig (CBYD) system and priority.
Experience communicating verbally and in writing, with teammates and stakeholders of all levels.
Experience with planning and assigning daily work, and scheduled overtime, to a crew of employees.
Experience in a lead or supervisor capacity and understanding of department policies and procedures.
Experience with managing stock supplies.

Responsibilities

Overseeing and assigning daily duties to a crew of various Transportation Maintainers and Qualified Crafter Workers (Electrical) in the repair and maintenance operations of traffic lighting and highway illumination on statewide roadways and highways.
Planning crew workflow and determining priorities.
Scheduling, assigning, overseeing, and reviewing work.
Establishing and maintaining crew procedures.
Providing staff training and assistance.
Conducting or assisting in conducting performance evaluations.
Acting as liaison with operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures.
Requisitioning materials and equipment appropriate to the various jobs.
Participating in performing the duties of the crew.
Making recommendations on policies or standards.
Preparing reports and correspondence.
Performing preliminary site inspection of assigned jobs.
Being required to stand by for and respond to fire and/or crash emergency situations at State-owned airports.
Performing related duties as required.
Accepting assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever services are needed, including mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30.
Staying at work for the duration of storm events, which may require extended periods, including holidays and weekends.
