About The Position

Garver is seeking a motivated transportation planning student to join our Transportation Team in Austin, TX. This intern will gain real-world experience in transportation corridor and statewide planning, training by our experienced environmental and planning staff and project managers, and an understanding of how to apply their academic training in the consulting industry. The internship involves actively participating in data analysis, development of materials for stakeholder engagement efforts, and contributing to statewide and corridor planning reports by working alongside our dynamic consulting team. Interns will become familiar with local, state, and federal regulations relevant to transportation planning. They will explore interdisciplinary interests including transportation planning and policy analysis, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, public and stakeholder engagement, data analysis, and developing planning documents while gaining exposure to many types of infrastructure projects across transportation, aviation, and water business lines. The role requires coordinating with multiple disciplines and across business lines, and learning to utilize industry-related software such as ESRI ArcGIS products. The successful candidate will be a motivated critical thinker with the adaptability to learn and engage with a variety of transportation projects. The Garver Launch Program offers an immersive hands-on intern development program, daily engagement with fellow interns and industry professionals, participation in Garver's wellness program, community volunteer activities through Garver Gives, and professional growth enhancement through collaboration with the Learning and Development team.

Requirements

  • Pursuing an environmental, planning or civil engineering, or related degree.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in the office, in the field, and travel to meetings, as necessary.
  • Proven time management skills and work ethic.
  • Proven professional communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • A strong desire to assist with a wide array of infrastructure improvement projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in the environmental, planning, or civil engineering field.
  • Previous experience using GIS software.

Responsibilities
