About The Position

Provide strategic leadership for fleet sizing and utilization across all company-controlled rail assets to support operational efficiency and service continuity. Direct coordination of railcar maintenance with external repair partners to ensure company-controlled assets remain compliant, reliable, and aligned with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety standards. Champion technology and automation initiatives that improve transportation performance, visibility, and insights impacting financial and operational performance. Support continuous improvement and change management efforts that strengthen processes, capabilities, and organizational effectiveness. Provide leadership oversight for talent development, succession planning, and organizational capability to ensure a high-performing team, strengthen leadership bench strength, and support enterprise transportation priorities. Compile and analyze budget and annual operating plan data to inform strategic financial and operational roadmap for Bulk Operations. Conduct quarterly audits of TAFC and CHFC activity to support timely and accurate freight cost adjustments for JST and hopper customers. Support the escalation and resolution of outstanding railcar demurrage issues to minimize financial exposure and service disruption. Manage relationships with vendors and lessors and negotiate favorable commercial terms and special pricing arrangements when appropriate. Review and approve vendor invoices for running repairs, tank HM216 compliance, washouts, MRU, private empty car storage, demurrage, and escalate high value invoices for leadership approval. Prepare supporting analysis and documentation for capital investment requests associated with repairs Audit railcar lease invoices to validate applicable shop credits and ensure billing accuracy. Partner with the Senior Manager on rail fleet composition analysis related to shop, wash, storage, and MRU decisions supporting projects and day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics preferred, or bachelor’s degree in a related field combined with 3+ years of experience in logistics, finance, distribution, or transportation.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in transportation operations, with preference for experience in rail operations, specialized transportation, or profit and loss management.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, FM mainframe, QMF, understanding data tables, SQL/DB2 tables, as well as experience working with supply chain operating systems.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage mid- to senior-level leadership.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to synthesize complex data to support decision-making.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and a result-oriented approach to problem-solving.
