This position supports highway and bridge maintenance by operating equipment and completing a variety of essential labor tasks.

Requirements

  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must be able to obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • Must be able to obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.

  • Ability to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks, loaders, and other machinery used for roadway and bridge maintenance
  • Maintain CDL credentials and complete all required pre and post operation checks
  • Carry out flagging duties to guide drivers safely through work zones
  • Use hand tools and power tools to clear debris, cut vegetation, dig ditches, and repair signs and barriers
  • Make field adjustments, complete minor repairs, and assist mechanics with equipment needs
  • Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and help maintain a safe work environment
