About The Position

PennDOT’s Washington County Maintenance Organization is seeking full-time CDL Equipment Operators to help maintain and improve the county’s highway and bridge systems. As a valued member of our team, you will operate essential equipment, support year-round maintenance operations, and play a vital role in keeping our roads safe for the traveling public. This position offers meaningful, hands-on work where teamwork, physical effort, and dedication make a visible difference in communities across Pennsylvania. Key Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, performing manual and construction tasks, conducting equipment care, maintaining accurate records, supporting team operations, and promoting safety. Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
  • All permanent employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate trucks, plows, and construction equipment to support snow removal and roadway maintenance.
  • Assist with various maintenance and construction projects that improve roadway safety and infrastructure.
  • Perform minor repairs, routine servicing, and daily inspections to ensure equipment and vehicles remain in proper working condition.
  • Complete daily logs and reports that document equipment usage, maintenance activities, and operational needs.
  • Work collaboratively with your crew to complete physically demanding tasks that require coordination and commitment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, use required protective gear, remain aware of hazards, and report any injuries or incidents immediately.
