About The Position

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Transportation Engineering Intern in Long Island, NY. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading design while learning the transportation engineering trade. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers and consultants, work within project budgets, and support cross-functional teams to help meet project goals and client expectations. You will also contribute to documentation, coordination, and project delivery within a civil team serving environmental, municipal, and wastewater clients across Long Island and New York City.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • May be required to assist with field duties such as surveying and materials testing
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with transportation design for highway, bridge, transit, and multimodal projects according to code and IMEG standards.
  • Research commercially available equipment and project resources.
  • Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files.
  • Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers.
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before requesting a final check.
  • Assist with the preparation and issuance of addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and support other services required by the contract services agreement.
