About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Transportation Design Lead for their Atlanta team, specializing in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects. This senior leadership role will be involved in a variety of projects including highway, municipal roadway, intermodal/port, and rail design. The position will collaborate with other Moffatt & Nichol transportation departments across the state, US, and potentially internationally. Current projects include round-abouts, the first concept design of a superstreet in GA, intersections, and new location highway bypasses. Familiarity with various civil engineering projects, permitting experience, and a strong professional network with municipal, GDOT, or regulatory agency staff is desired.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation related engineering degree; required
  • 8-16 years of experience in a wide variety of transportation engineering design projects; required
  • Professional Registration (PE) in Georgia or the ability to gain through reciprocity within 6 months of start position; required
  • 3+ years of experience in OpenRoads design; required
  • A motivated self starter who is a team player and has the desire to continue to learn and grow while mentoring Jr. Engineers, a must
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design tasks for highway, municipal roadway, some rail and potentially intermodal/port projects from preliminary to final design.
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, GDOT and state clients, as well as private clients.
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design-bid-build and design-build highway projects.
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including but not limited to implementation and knowledge of cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance.
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action.
