About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Transportation Engineer – Roadway to join their Raleigh, North Carolina office. This role will involve managing a variety of projects, including roadway NCDOT & municipal design projects, and developing plans for projects across the state, US, and potentially internationally. Familiarity with DOT roadway engineering type projects and permitting experience is desired.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 8 to 12 years of experience in roadway design
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Certificate required
  • 3+ years of production experience with OpenRoads Designer
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel when necessary
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty in DOT Roadway Design preferred
  • Professional Engineer licensure in North Carolina or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from preliminary to final design for DOT, municipal, and private sector clients
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, NCDOT, and other state and private sector clients
  • Provide engineering design services for design-bid-build highway and alternative delivery of projects
  • Manage client communications and project development for all stages of transportation design projects
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, scheduling, and performance
  • Assist in identifying schedule and cost variances and developing recommendations for corrective action
