Transportation Engineer Licensed Specialist 13 (MI Bridge Inventory Specialist and Contract Manager)
About The Position
The Bureau of Bridges and Structures (BOBS) is responsible for administering the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and overseeing local agency-owned structures. This position serves as the statewide specialist for Michigan's National Bridge Inventory (NBI) in accordance with Federal Regulations (23 CFR 650C). The role involves managing consultant contracts for data collection, such as bridge clearance and structural member identification, and assisting with other contract management within the NBIS/NTIS Section. This position is crucial for ensuring the quality assurance and quality control of Michigan Bridge Inventory data. It also involves coordinating data use with various department bureaus, regions, and local agencies, preparing special studies, performing data analysis, and making recommendations for bridge inventory modifications. Additionally, this position supports the Bridge Management Systems (BMS) Engineer in developing MDOT's bridge management system (AASHTOWare BrM).
Requirements
- Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
- Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer.
- Two years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11 or one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 12 or Transportation Engineer Licensed 12.
- Possess a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan.
- Attach a copy of official college transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluation with application.
- Academic credentials must be evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents if foreign degrees are possessed.

Responsibilities
- Administer the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

- Manage consultant contracts to collect data such as bridge clearance data, structural member identification, and protective systems.
- Assist with the management of other consultant contracts as needed in the NBIS/NTIS Section.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control of Michigan Bridge Inventory data.
- Coordinate the use of data with other department bureaus, regions, and local agencies.
- Prepare special studies and perform data analysis.
- Make recommendations for modifications to the bridge inventory to meet customer needs.
- Assist the Bridge Management Systems (BMS) Engineer in the development of MDOT's bridge management system (AASHTOWare BrM).
