About The Position

The Town of Leesburg is seeking a creative problem solver, proactive self-starter, and lifelong learner to join their team. This role involves performing professional planning and engineering duties to support the Town's transportation infrastructure, capital improvement, and community development initiatives. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and designing transportation and traffic projects from concept to completion. The position will conduct technical analysis, research, and problem-solving to improve the Town's transportation network, enhance pedestrian and traffic safety, and support long-range planning efforts. This role requires coordination with internal departments, external agencies, consultants, contractors, and the public, while ensuring projects align with Town goals, engineering standards, regulatory requirements, budgets, and schedules. The work is performed under the general direction of the Transportation Engineer within the Department of Public Works, Transportation Division. The specific position level will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree with major course work in civil engineering or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in design or construction of civil engineering work.
Possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
Bachelor’s degree in planning, design, engineering, geography, public administration, or a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in planning, engineering, zoning or development work or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in project management, public administration, urban planning, engineering, construction management, geography, or related field.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation planning, project management, engineering, or related field.

Nice To Haves

Engineer-In-Training Certificate (EIT)
Familiarity with local government planning processes, development review, or transportation programs
Bilingual in English/Spanish
Master’s degree in planning, engineering, public administration, or a related field
Experience using GIS and transportation data analysis tools
Professional accreditation such as AICP
Project management experience
Experience using GIS, project tracking systems, or data analysis tools
Seven (7) or more years of experience in transportation planning, project management or engineering
Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP)

Responsibilities

Performs professional planning, and engineering duties in support of the Town's transportation infrastructure, capital improvement, and community development initiatives.
Planning, coordinating and designing transportation and traffic projects from concept through completion.
Conducts technical analysis, research, and problem-solving to improve the Town's transportation network, enhance pedestrian and traffic safety, and support long-range planning efforts.
Coordinating with internal departments, external agencies, consultants, contractors, and the public.
Providing exceptional customer service.
Ensuring projects are completed in accordance with Town goals, engineering standards, regulatory requirements, budgets, and schedules.
