The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking motivated engineers, licensed in the State of Ohio, with strong communication and problem-solving skills to provide contract administration and field engineering functions for bridge and roadway construction projects in Southwest Ohio. This role acts as a staff specialist in construction, developing and evaluating plans and criteria for various projects, and assessing the feasibility of engineering designs. Alternatively, it involves supervising staff engaged in construction activities, focusing on staff development, performance evaluation, and goal setting. The position also assists in policy development, budget preparation, and long-range planning, advising various entities on projects and problems within their area of expertise. The role directs work activities such as bridge construction, pipe installations, and paving operations, trains employees on inspection and testing procedures, and ensures proper documentation. The engineer operates a state vehicle to inspect project sites, provides technical assistance, signs engineering documents, and interprets complex plans to ensure compliance and resolve issues. Additionally, the role assists Contractor Compliance Officers in meeting Commercially Useful Function requirements, investigates complaints, documents findings, and assists with resolutions. Responsibilities include documenting pay quantities, maintaining project records, initiating change orders, approving material sampling, and attending meetings and training sessions. During winter months, the position assists the district office with field documentation, project finalization, and construction staff training.
