About The Position
The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT), is seeking a Transportation Engineer 2 (Engineering) for the State Design Unit in the Division of Highway Design at its Newington Headquarters. This role involves designing improvements to Connecticut's highway system, positively impacting safety and traffic operations in local communities. Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering and two (2) years of experience in a professional transportation engineering or transportation construction engineering capacity.
- Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
Nice To Haves
- Experience developing plans, specifications, and estimates for complex highway engineering projects
- Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to the public and peers
- Experience with the design process from project initiation through design approval and final design delivery
- Experience utilizing MicroStation, OpenRoads or similar CAD software to develop design models and contract plans
- Possession of an accredited bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- Experience preparing complex technical reports and documents
- Experience with relevant CTDOT manuals, policies, and procedures
- Experience analyzing problems and offering effective solutions for issues related to transportation engineering
- Experience designing stormwater drainage systems for roadways
Responsibilities
- Developing three-dimensional roadway models using CAD software
- Developing and analyzing multiple design alternatives for transportation improvement projects
- Preparing design plans, profiles, cross sections, and design details for State projects
- Analyzing and designing complex stormwater drainage systems
- Developing project designs that incorporate multi-modal facilities to address the needs of drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit users
- Designing roadside safety elements, including guiderail and concrete barrier
- Engaging in stakeholder outreach with municipal leaders, neighborhood groups, businesses, homeowners, and the traveling public
- Developing plans and supporting documentation for environmental permits
- Coordinating with utility companies to determine potential conflicts and relocations if necessary
- Coordinating with other units within the CTDOT
- Conducting field meetings and site investigations
- Performing related duties as required
