About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is accepting applications for a Transportation Engineer 2 (Construction Engineering) in the Bureau of Engineering and Construction within the Quality Assurance Unit in Newington. This is a full-time, 40-hour, first-shift position, Monday-Friday. The role is hybrid and eligible for telework after completing the initial working test period, in accordance with the telework policy. Employees in their initial working test period must work on-site. This position is part of the P-4 (Engineering and Scientific) bargaining unit. The Division of Construction Operations (DCO) manages statewide construction and maintenance projects from design to final acceptance, including Alternative Project Delivery, Construction Claims & Litigation, E-Construction, Materials Testing, and Central Surveys. The Quality Assurance Unit focuses on the Pavement Advisory Team, Work Zone Safety, Value Engineering, Records Examination, Constructability Plan Reviews, and Standard Specifications revisions. The Advisory Team within the DCO provides technical support to DOT units to enhance the design, construction, and administration of statewide construction projects. The Transportation Engineer 2 (Construction Engineering) will assist a Transportation Engineer 3 (TE3) in liaising between Construction Districts, other Units, and the DCO. Responsibilities include reviewing project records, performing project-related functions, verifying the completeness and correctness of project documentation and final packages for construction projects, and other related duties.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management
  • Two (2) years of experience in a professional transportation construction engineering or transportation engineering capacity
  • For state employees, one (1) year of experience must have been at the level of a Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering) or (Engineering)

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Engineer-In-Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in relevant area
  • Experience with project administration and inspection for Transportation Projects
  • Experience with engineering/construction procedures related to project delivery processes
  • Experience or training in project record keeping on transportation or similar construction projects using public funds
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365, Bluebeam, Sharepoint, AASHTOWare or other construction management reporting software
  • Experience prioritizing work to meet time sensitive deadlines on group and individual projects

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing construction project records, reports, Federal Vouchers
  • Verifying contract time calculations, comparing estimates vs financial disbursements
  • Comparing materials testing requirements to pay quantities
  • Reviewing calculations
  • Reviewing project plans and specifications
  • Verifying project requirements are met prior to processing acceptance forms
  • Reviewing all required project documentation in accordance with the procedures stated in CTDOT’s Construction Manual
