The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is seeking motivated agency employees for a Transportation Principal Engineer (Engineering) position in the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Division of Facilities and Transit, Hydraulics & Drainage and Soils & Foundations unit. This recruitment is open to current agency employees of the Dept. of Transportation only. The Transportation Principal Engineer oversees and leads the Hydraulics and Drainage, and Soils and Foundations sections. These sections provide crucial expertise in water resource matters, storm drainage systems, culverts, bridges over waterways, dams, and geotechnical aspects of roads, bridges, and transportation facilities. This expertise is vital during the planning, design, environmental permitting, and construction phases of engineering projects. The role also involves providing technical advice for maintenance, reviewing commercial development proposals, and overseeing consultant engineers. The incumbent must be available for office and field direction during significant rainfall events, including evenings and weekends, to assist with bridge scour monitoring. Travel for training, conferences, and meetings is also required. A valid driver's license is necessary.
