About The Position

This part-time, at-will position is responsible for providing transportation for older adults to necessary appointments or for errands. The role requires availability for an assigned shift, approximately 20-25 hours per week. The Transportation Driver is responsible for safely assisting clients in and out of the vehicle and ensuring their comfort and security during trips. Drivers must follow detailed instructions and pick-up lists while managing multiple clients efficiently. Strong time management and quick decision-making are essential to ensure clients arrive at their appointments and return home safely. This role requires balancing efficiency with safety, providing reliable and timely transportation while maintaining a high standard of care for all passengers. The employee will perform their duties in accordance with the Allowable and Unallowable Activities for the service provided, specifically, the Transportation section of the most recent version of the Indiana Health Coverage Programs, Provider Reference Manual, Home and Community Based Services Waivers (“Waiver Manual”).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • Proven experience operating passenger vehicles safely and efficiently, with a strong record of punctuality and reliability.
  • Demonstrated safe driving record with thorough knowledge of transportation regulations and best practices.
  • Familiarity with streets, routes, and navigation within the service area.
  • Ability to work compassionately and patiently with older adults, including those with illnesses or special needs.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening, limited criminal history check, driver check and National Sex Offender Registry check, SAM and OIG exclusion screenings as well as TB test.
  • Must pass and maintain compliance with the agency’s background check policy.
  • Proof of educational credentials is required at employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and a dependable vehicle required.
  • Must meet the Agency’s required car insurance coverage level at time employment begins and maintain it throughout the duration of employment (Liability Coverage: $100,000/$300,000/$100,000).

Responsibilities

  • Provides transportation support for clients, returning them from necessary appointments, grocery shopping, or other errands; performs errands or shopping on behalf of clients when they are unable to go.
  • Foster Grandparent pickups and returns may also be part of the daily schedule.
  • Assists clients in identifying optimal sales, discounts, and other cost-saving opportunities; collects client contributions and submits them to Transportation Assistants.
  • Maintains accurate records of mileage, time, and services on client service sheets, obtaining clients’ signatures as required; plans routes efficiently to maximize time and vehicle usage.
  • Adapts to schedule variability, including occasional coverage of routes to fill in for other drivers as needed.
  • Operate agency vehicles in compliance with all traffic laws and organizational safety policies.
  • Safely assist clients in and out of the vehicle and ensuring their comfort and security during trips.
  • Follow detailed instructions and pick-up lists while managing multiple clients efficiently.
