About The Position

The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) is accepting applications from qualified DOT employees for the position of Transportation District Services Agent 1 in our District 1 Special Services section in Rocky Hill, CT. This position is responsible for performing a full range of tasks in the inspection of work performed under permit or of road conditions involving traffic regulatory measures. Applicants will be required to possess a valid driver's license and to travel to all locations throughout District 1 area. Requirements

  • Must be a current State of CT employee of the agency for at least six (6) months of full-time service or full-time equivalent service.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Five (5) years of field work in highway construction, reconstruction, maintenance and/or drainage projects or traffic control studies.
  • One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in the inspection of highway construction, reconstruction, maintenance and/or drainage projects or traffic control studies.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, specifications, regulations and statutes
  • Ability to conduct investigations
  • Ability to prepare charts and graphs
  • Ability to utilize computer software

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with principles and practices of trench excavation, roadway restoration, utility construction and traffic signal installation.
  • Up to date with the Encroachment Permit Manual, Highway Design Manual and related regulations and statutes.
  • Experience supervising multiple contractors on varied job sites.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineered plans.
  • Experience and knowledge of various Department software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews permit applications, bonds, insurance certificates and plans and specifications prior to construction
  • Participates in pre-construction meetings
  • Inspects work affecting state highways by property owners, public utilities, municipalities, general contractors and other state agencies performed under permit to insure compliance with permit specifications, safety procedures and state and local regulations
  • Recommends field changes
  • Verifies completion of permit work
  • Investigates complaints and conducts inspections pertaining to following: illegal encroachments, cross culvert and drainage system installations and new project initiations, major traffic generators and other related matters
  • Prepares drainage project estimates
  • Makes recommendations for improvements pertaining to traffic related matters
  • Reviews roads scheduled for resurfacing
  • Prepares pre-construction and progress reports
  • Coordinates traffic services memoranda and maintains records
  • Maintains contact with other departmental and outside officials regarding projects
  • May assist agents of higher grade with investigations
  • Performs related duties as required
